This summer is cruel—we all know that. While I’m a firm believer that hard work pays off and will never go to waste, these past few months have also taught me that you don’t have to be so cruel to yourself in the process.
While I was eating gelato this summer—courtesy of Love & Gelato by Jenna Evans Welch, just so you remember to deem it a success—I thought of nothing near the topic. All I could think of was: 1) how much I did not enjoy macaroon as gelato flavor; and 2) I needed more sleep. It was an uneventful day overall, an ordinary seeking-for-a-night-out night.
But everything has a reason, don’t they? Aristotle wasn’t lying when he said what he said. Me eating gelato on a moderate night turns out to be the perfect symbol of how comfortable ordinariness can be. The ability to soak in every moment without any approval to worry about holds even more power than you can imagine.
Why be so cruel to yourself, when being ordinary and staying low-key is a culture you can choose to embrace comfortably?
